Vtg Antique Lace Tablecloth Handmade Point de France Needlelace Figural 19th Cen

  
This is a breathtaking piece of textile art. Every single stitch is hand done with a single needle. Depicting figural cherubs in the center and having 4 additional individually designed figural vignettes in each corner. The surround is full of flower baskets, cornucopia's and vining botanicals and a lovely array of fancy filling stitches. Possibly a rabbit or hare snuck into one of the designs?

The fine net ground of the center and corner vignettes is also all hand done in two sizes for a lovely shadowing effect. I believe this dates to early 19th Century. It is not of the tiny scale of Point de France of earlier centuries, however it is still a finer scale than many late 19th Century and early 20th century needlelaces. This piece was originally from a long time collector who had a small museum.

It was originally made as a tablecloth / topper and would be fabulous framed as wall art. Pieces like this rarely come to market any longer.
