Very Fine Rare Large Antique C1730 Panel Crewel Embroidered Flowers Needlework

  
This fabulous piece of finely embroidered lawn/cotton dates from the early part of the 18th century and may have been salvaged from a wonderful dress, as it has been unpicked from a seam or hem all the way round, and there is also a dart at the top. The pattern around the bottom is repeated, and it's a skirt length. It came from a collection, all labelled and possibly from a museum. It has one ink stain and a few very small rust stains. It is in remarkably good clean condition. It is ceased from storage but would press well and is not to big to frame.

It is beautifully hand embroidered all over with flowers and leaves, including lilies, strawberry flowers and oak leaves, in bright unfaded fine wool. There is a paper label attached, reading Crewel embroidery English: 1st half 18thC This is a nice piece. It measures 66 x 95 cms 26" x 37" approx.
