Tapestry Antique French Floral & Ribbon Gros Point 18th Century Wool & Hemp aged

  
Hello and Welcome to the Textile Trunk. Dating to the mid to late 18th century, this wonderful tapestry uses gros point and was all made by hand! This gorgeous piece with incredible colors was once the upholstered backing to a settee or couch and has since been removed. Amount of time went into making this gorgeous textile! It was created using wool thread on a hemp ground. As you can see in the photos there is thread loss in the wool. Stunning naturally dyed colors--bright tones of green, blue, red, orange, purple, yellow.

Both sides are gorgeous even though only one side was intended to be seen!! Beautiful stylized floral and ribbon pattern!

The embroidery generally terminates within a few inches of the edge of this textile. Stunning for hanging as is or lovely too for other projects like pillows, upholstery, framing, headboards etc.

You have to see this in person to truly understand how wonderful it is! This wonderful piece measures approx.

72 inches wide by 30 inches long, but please keep in mind the shape is irregular. CONDITION : This lovely piece is in as found, not freshly laundered condition. Generall, this textile is in gorgeous aged condition considering it's use and materials, however there are some flaws often inherent in these textiles.

Since the thread of the design was wool, there is thread loss. When this was removed from the couch it was attached to, it was torn away raggedly at the edges and holes & tears are left around the frayed edges here and there. The textile looks to have tanned with age and there are some storage and age marks. (please use the zoom feature) Beautifully timeworn!
