This is a pieced quilt of strips of blue ground arborescent pattern alternating with strips of nine-patch squares. Red and yellow arborescent pattern squares in foot corners. Variety of 1820's - 1830's prints. Backed with three 1830's prints, with edges turned in. Simple quilted with about 9 to10 stitches to the inch in a scalloped circular shell design, fi. Condition: Red corners blocks at foot have disintegrated and the past owner stabilized with fine netting hardly apparent.
Few col ored prints have the beginnings of shattering, the red corner blocks at foot being the worst. Beginnings of a very few wear pieces. Some staining on back and front, not bad... Some repairs done on red blocks to stabilize with a fine hardly apparent netting.The rest is very good condition, even to sparkling glaze still upon many of the fabrics. Age related conditions for being 178 years old. This quilt is in as found condition. Back material is a printed calico and the batting is thin. No bi nding, fabric is rolled f rom the front to the back and hand stitched.

Susan lives about 45 minutes from my home and have known her for many years. She has travelled the east coast going to all the museum for photographing their collection for the book as well as doing seminars on textiles as well as showing these quilts in her talks to show people attending the seminars on identification of prints and fabrics from different time period. Greene used this quilt in her presentations as well as fabric example photographs in her book. The quilt would work on a king/queen sized bed and is in go od, unwashed condition.I have a nice collection of other antique quilts located in MY STORE.
