RARE 18TH C RICH EMBROIDERED & BEAD COIF HEAD CAP BONNET. THIS PIECE ALONG WITH OTHERS OFFERED THIS WEEK WERE ACQUIRED FROM THE SLOCUM ESTATE LOCATED ON THE FAMOUS BELLEVUE AVE IN NEWPORT RHODE ISLAND. THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF INFORMATION ON BOTH EILEEN SLOCUM AS WELL AS THE HOUSE KNOWN AS THE HAROLD BROWN VILLA. DATING TO THE 18TH CENTURY. FASHIONED OF BLACK SILK WITH EXCEPTIONAL HAND EMBROIDERY AND BEAD WORK IN CHENILLE THREAD WITH METALLIC GOLD BOULLION THREAD AND BEADING. THE INTERIOR IS LINED IN COTTON, HEAVILY SOILED ON THE INNER FRONT EDGE FROM WEAR. WONDERFUL HAND STITCHING IS VISIBLE FROM THE. SEVERAL SMALL HIGH POINTS OF WEAR ARE SEEN JUST ASIDE THE CENTRAL FOLD OF THE CAP. THE METALLIC THREADS HAVE HEAVILY TARNISHED AND NO LONGER LOOK METALLIC.

OTHERWISE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, A WONDERFUL RARE, EARLY MUST HAVE. Often for proper fit, hang, and wear ability, pieces will need to be altered and/or adding a hook or snap here or there, with a seam closure or strengthening needed. Vintage clothing is most often worn previously, and if old stock, often has slight imperfections from storage, a hint of color or odor.
