OUTSTANDING PRE CIVIL WAR Vintage 1850's Coxcomb Feather Applique Antique Quilt! This GORGEOUS cotton 1850's coxcomb quilt is hand appliqued and hand quilted, done in the traditional four-block configuration, with unusual floral and feather borders The quilt came out of central Pennsylvania. It measures 76" X 76" and is very good condition, with the occasional age spot, 4-5 small appliqued pieces in the floral border with a couple of tiny breaks (smaller than a pea -- see photos), and wear in the binding and inner red piping.

The quilt feels strong and sturdy overall. There is quilting around and within the applique, and in close straight line and floral designs in the background, all at an even 7-8 stitches to the inch. The back and hand stitched binding are white, and the batting is thin. You can see cotton seed residue inside when you hold the quilt up to the light.
