MUSEUM QUALITY Vintage PA "Scherenschnitte" Red & White Applique Antique Quilt! This AMAZING cotton 1880's red and white cutout applique quilt is hand appliqued and machine quilted, with an excellent example of the "scherenschnitte" technique (which translates to "scissor cut" in German) used by immigrant quilt makers in Pennsylvania in the late 19th century.
The design is mostly floral, with two tiny reverse appliqued hearts in the center. It measures 66" X 80" and is in excellent condition, with the occasional small, faint age spot and no wear. There is 3/4 grid quilting by treadle machine throughout. The back is white, the hand stitched binding is red, and the batting is thin.
The DAZZLING DESIGN, NICE RED, and DENSE TREADLE QUILTING make this late 19th century COLLECTOR'S QUILT stand out!
