Description: White silk taffeta w/ ecru cotton or linen backing, covered in polychrome embroidery, wide border of large scale flowers & stems surround embroidered metallic frame, center w/ 2 castles, cartouches & men in carriages, 49" x 81", (significant embroidery & taffeta losses - very fragile). I added mostly my own photos and found the date of 1606 marked on the lining - see last photo. This would put this wall hanging at approximately 411 years old.

I very much doubt there are many wall hangings of this size and age still in existence plus the unusual subject matter of castles, cartouches and men riding in carriages which makes this a very unique piece. It is believed to be either Italian or Portuguese. They also represent individuals & estates in the sale of rare items and collections that complement their spring and fall catalogued fashion auctions.
