Ladies C19th French Sewing/Tatting Box. I would say this is clearly a sewing box, there is a clear vacant insert for a thimble and the odd boot hooks looking items are, I believe, a "Tatting" handle and a selection of interchangeable hooks, or what is left of them. The interior is still very vivid given age, obviously shows wear, the mirror has a crack, but is the original and there are some gold-plated thread holders.
Externally there is wear and cracks and damage to some of the decoration, but mainly the mother of pearl is present and intact and there is liberal use of attractive enamelled studs all around on a wooden ground. Collectable and also bears a French label,'Tatting' being a popular French skill and many a ladies cuffs or collars were made from lace or by tatting. MAKE Makers label inside shows French origin. CONDITION Overall presents very well, however, internally glass has been cracked and some wear and fading to be expected.Externally some decorative pieces missing and crack in the base (quite common in old wood) and other damage as I would. A piece of this age that has been used.
