A gorgeous piece of vintage lace, Point de Gaz circa 1850. I know this because when I bought this it had a label attached with details. The label is still in place even though I have had this in store for ages. The label also says "Hem 72 inches off wedding dress". It is asbolutely beautiful and crammed with elaborate work.

I hope you can see all the details from my photographs. I have measured the lace myself and would say it is approx. It is about 9 1/2 inches deep. Both ends are raw but the top has a solid narrow band running along its length. The lower end follows the shape of the lace design. There are large circular shapes and large eye shapes on end which have wonderful work inside. Tully is very fine with flowers and leaves in the circular shapes and different flower shapes in the eye shape panels.

Lots of tiny stitches, open work, etc. These shapes rise up into the lace for about 50% of its height.

Rest of the lace is crammed with other leaves and flowers. About 24 inches or so in from one end there is a string of faux pearls attached to the top edge. These are small and silver in colour. They run until the end of the lace but some have some damage like missing coating to the faux pearls and there are a small number missing too.

I imagine it would be easy enough to take this off and keep them for projects. At the start of the lace about 2 inches down from the top edge there is a very light rust mark. Very insignificant in my view. Where the pearls start there is a short cord and thread from the pearls sticking out. There are some tiny holes in the tully on one circle. The threads have broken forming a very narrow slit about 1/4 inch across with a few other tiny holes in the same region.

Otherwise I cannot see any other damage. If I have it will be a missing/broken bridge or similar. For lace which is over 150 years old, it is in great shape. Thank you for your co-operation. The item "Fantastic Vintage Point de Gax Lace, circa 1850" is in sale since Tuesday, September 05, 2017.
