Fantastic Vintage Lace Flounce

  
The lace is vintage and it is white in colour. It came to me with a label which said it is antique lace and had been used by its previous owner as a skirt around a dressing table. Both the short sides are raw. The top is finished with a band made up of three ladder rows and this is approx. 1/4 inch deep in total. The lower end follows the shape of the design of the lace. Tully is very fine with tully completely covered with work, either flowers, leaves, sprays or small dots with open centres which could be tiny buttonhole stitches. These are at regular intervals over the tully.

Main designs are very elaborate and occupy most of the tully, finishing about 4 or 5 inches below the top edge. There are many types of flowers in this lace along with various leaf types too. Some leaves are very small and delicate whilst others are much larger, some reminding me of fern leaves.

Some flowers are sort of bell shapes and others more like roses. Many of the shapes are made from what looks like very fine stitches forming linen type of bands. These are then outlined in fine long threads which are caught down and stitched at regular intervals. You can see the lace from the back but all the threads are on the front side only.

Photograph 5 is a good picture and shows one large spray. These run along the length of the lace alternatively with a smaller spray. I cannot see any obvious signs of damage. No rips, tears or dirty marks or stains. There might be some tiny holes in the tully but I have not noticed any. Some short threads hanging here and there. I did notice along the top edge a little damage here and there to the ladder bands. Only minimal and nothing of significance.
