Antique QUAKER SHAWL OR CAPE DATING FROM 1830. This rare cape has been carefully stored for many years and comes from a small private collection. The fabric is a wool plaid with possibly the inclusion of silk; it has a fine weave but a slightly rough raw texture.
The cut of the shawl / cape is simplistic save for the draped back, ribbon embellishment to the neck and silk tassels. Cream ground with brown woven plaid. There are a number of small holes (probably moth damage) affecting the condition of this piece, as well as some marks and age spots, I was hoping this would be of interest to a costume collector or could be used as a pattern. Please see my other listings; I have some interesting textiles from the same small collection including a Quaker silk shawl allegedly was once owned by Elizabeth Fry.
