17thC Antique Embroidery Stumpwork Lamb of God Silk Picture Religion Agnus Dei

  
An embroidered image, the Lamb of God upon an altar, the main section surrounded by flowers, grasses, and leaves, with a lower border design involving stars of gold thread, the whole surrounded by a border of gold thread. Said to be 17th century, though I cannot prove this. Signs of wear to the silk background, but these are not too intrusive and the whole is a lovely decorative piece. The lamb motif is a classic Christian design.

Size: the frame measures 57cms x 32cms. A heavy item for its size: 2.5kgs. Condition: The silk on which the embroidery has been done is showing signs of wear, with a number of tears, one or two of which look as if they have been crudely mended. However these tears are not too intrusive, while the embroidered work is in a good condition.

The blue threads in both the flowers, and the lower decorative border with gold stars are a lovely rich colour. The gold outer border is in a good condition too, and the work on the lamb and its decorative altar is impressive.
