Hello and thank you for looking. One of the most beautiful! This textile is French and dates from the late 1800's or perhaps early 1900's.This textile is a work shirt made of a very deep , very dark black indigo blue dyed linen that has wonderful signs of use. These textiles are very difficult to photograph well as they are so dark, the last 3 photographs show the most accurate tone! Dark , inky blue it is stunning!! The tag of the maker is still intact on the inside These textiles were worn to protect the clothing of a man and were saved for special occasions and festivals! This smock is both hand and machine stitched pure , very finely woven linen which was glazed to repel dirt.
The sides each have slits for hand to reach into the pocket of the wearers clothing! A very roomy textile Gorgeous for display or lovely for any collection (RR 7888). MEASUREMENTS : This lovely textile measures 34 inches long. The sleeve measures 20 inches long.
The chest, when measures flat, from one underarm to the other is 38 inches!! CONDITION: This lovely textile is freshly laundered.
