A very fine 19th Century Chintz border quilt out of Pennsylvania with bold vivid fabric in astounding condition. The colors are vivid with Turkey Reds, Prussian Blues and Poison Greens among others. Rare to find any quilt from this era, but to find one in this condition is truly remarkable.
It's a museum quality collector piece, the fabric are vibrant and remarkable, showing no signs of wear or use on the front and a couple stains on the back and a small split (shown). Found near the borders of Lancaster and Berks counties, this one may have migrated from a little further north, such as Northampton county.
The fabrics are estimated to be 1840's -1870's. The batting is medium thin, it's entirely hand sewn, binding is front to back, about 6-7 stitches / inch. This came with a paper tag pinned onto the back corner with the names of two great grandmothers stating it was made by one or the other, could be a fun and worthy research project.
