37 wide x 57 long. This is a very unique piece from at least the 19. Century which might have been used as a portiere or a curtain panel.
It has been cut at the top and bottom but is hemmed on both sides with a homespun linen backing. It is completely hand made and consists of a panel of deep blue wool silk blend that has been embroidered on one side with a heavy floral motif. The other side of the embroidery is a 5 silk velvet strip in the same deep blue color. The silk, as you can see in the photos, has aged and deteriorated. The velvet on the other hand is in great condition and the embroidery atop the weakened silk is good and strong.
It has the expected dustiness, given its age. This piece would look great in a frame! Silk, wool and linen fibers. The item "STRIKING ANTIQUE 19TH CENTURY EMBROIDERED SILK TEXTILE TT53" is in sale since Sunday, August 20, 2017.
