A very special quilt for the seasoned collector this show stopping Pennsylvania Whig Rose Applique beauty. I get all excited when I find a special quilt like this. It comes from a private collection and hasn't been offered to the quilt market in many years. The quilt was collected from an estate in Lancaster Pennsylvania. The colors are so vibrant and quilts like this from the area are highly sort after and treasured.
The colors are radiant with solids in red, green and cheddar. Back a honeycomb cheater print.
All the fabrics blend so well and the maker was truly skilled in her quilt making. I was so impressed by the hand quilting with fancy feathers that vine on the borders, cross hatch and outline patterns. The turned edge is amazing with a tiny tight edge that is hand sewn.
I can't believe how the maker made is so tight and thin. The quilt measures a generous 90 x 93 inches. Hand quilted at 9-10 stitches per inch in places. The applique is hand sewn and batting is thin. The quilt is crisp, never used or washed just the way collector's enjoy finding them! There are places of age spotting and the cheddar has some oxidation which is typical to see with early cheddar. Inner border has sawtooth in solid red and green. This type, color and pattern are almost impossible to find outside a collection and this will be a joy for any collector to own. Quilts like this were highly respected and grace the covers of the famous posters and calendars titled, "Quilts of Lancaster County Pennsylvania".
