RARE 18th CENTURY GEORGIAN FRAMED BLACK SILKWORK EMBROIDERED OVAL RURAL PICTURE. This is a rarely found George III black silkwork embroidered picture from the last half of the 18th century, circa 1780. Making it over 230 years old. Housed in a period oval frame with an original gilt border and behind old glass, we see a two men on the banks of a lake one sitting upon a rock the other standing wearing his tricorn hat watching or waiting for the men out on the water in boats, it is surrounded by a rural scene with buildings and churches in the background.

This sentimental rural scene very reminiscent of the genre of paintings and prints created by the popular artists of this time; those such as Francis Wheatley, George Romney and George Morland. Each of the men on the bank are embroidered in black silk work wearing the dress of the time that this was stitched, breeches, one is wearing a great coat and tricorn hat, the other sitting upon a rock, out on the water you will see two rowing boats, one has three men the other two men out fishing, the buildings in the background have been stitched beautifully so very detailed with a church and many other buildings, the rural scene is also so very beautifully stitched in black silk, with wonderful trees, bushes, foliage and rocks, each time you look at this amazing black silkwork artwork you see something different. The sky is the of plain stitched silk, the remainder of the silk picture is profusely wrought in many, many kinds of stitches worked in long and short stitch. The entire composition really is a textural delight. This would have been stitched by a wealthy lady in the 18th century and would have taken many weeks if not months to finish, this was in a time when being accomplished in sewing, painting, music etc was a sign of wealth for a young lady. Its shows signs of its age with a split to the side of the frame and wear to the silkwork, but in overall wonderful original condition for it age please study the photos carefully. All Antique silver items will show some signs of wear, which only adds to the history of the object.....
