Museum Quality PRE 1830s RISING SUN Antique QUILT Provenance NJ. This is one for the books, a museum quality, chintz quilt in the Rising Sun pattern. This is the third of an incredible trio of quilts from New Jersey. One of these quilts had a paper label with enough information to identify the family, please see the bottom of the description for this information. The fabrics are exquisite, we took a ton of photos so you can fully appreciate them!
Expertly hand quilted at 8-11 stitches per inch. There is a residue of a paper sticker remnant on the edge, we did not try to remove. Measures 90" x 78 1/2" with 24 panels on the back. Original finish on the fabrics. In near mint condition with some light tanning/spotting.Fabrics are strong and vibrant. The Note (on the other quilt) reads Property of L. Zabriskie, pieced by her Mother, Elizabeth Hill.
We found the maker and the first owner of this quilt by doing genealogy research. Lorenza Zabriskie, was born to Cornelius and Elizabeth (Hill) in 1859. Her Mother, Elizabeth was born in 1834. Cornelius and Elizabeth were married in 1855 in Pascock Washington, Bergen, New Jersey.
An amazing find, very rare and very much an American treasure to be preserved! We like to do business the old fashion way. Get to know us by visiting our Me Page. We would love for you to visit!
