This is a wonderful antique European grain sack dating from the second half of the 19th century with unusual and rare printed stripes! This sack was hand woven and was once used for storing grains. Recently, this sack has been dyed to create a gorgeous steely, powder gray blue or stone blue tone. The dye has softened the texture of the linen which is wonderfully floppy and nubby! I have a few of these sacks and some have an almost "brushed" look and feel!

The printed stripes are a muted khaki bronze tone that were probably once more of a deeper caramel tone before the dyeing. Because the stripes are printed they do not appear on the interior of the sack like a woven stripe would. The stripe also ends before it reaches the bottom of the bag (on most of these sacks). Such a fabulous unique grain sack! Dry clean only, the dye may fade gently with time.

These textiles were made to stand the test of time and are ideal for upholstery projects, pillow covers, bath mats, table runners, dog beds, curtains, lampshades etc! The smallest dimension is about 18 inches wide by 40 inches long and the largest dimension is about 22 inches wide by 61 inches long. These sacks are double sided, so if using for cutting there would be 2 panels that measure this range! This grain sack is in as found, unwashed condition. There are a few pale storage marks that may or may not wash fully. There may be one or two tiny holes on your sack.

The texture appears almost brushed as the linen has pilled lightly from use (only on some of these sacks). Some of these sacks have printed stripes all the way to the bottom of the sack, others do not. A few of these sacks have a little cord loop at the opening! Please view photos closely, condition reflected in the price.
