This wonderful textile is a remarkable French folk dress bodice, dating c 1770. French female folk dress were made of printed cottons that were fashionable during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. This wonderful garment was designed to wear over a gown as you can see in the image painted by Antoine Raspal (last photograph).
This textile is in extraordinary , well preserved condition (please see condition details below) with the fabric tones still vibrant. The lining is of heavy hemp and the back has the original lifts for the "rump". These are stuffed with dense straw.
This textile has velvet trim around the arm openings. A wonderful and very rare find. MEASUREMENTS : This lovely textile measures approximately. 13.5 inches deep , 21 inches around at the waist , and the shoulders are approx.
CONDITION : This textile is in as found condition. It's in remarkable condition! There are some very light perspiration stains, and a few small holes under the arms.
