This is an exquisite Dutch Frisian sampler, showing typical Frisian letters & figures, the Tree of Life, a key, a birds' cage, a man smoking a pipe, a dog, a peacock, a horse and carriage, a windmill and two stags. It is stitched with olive green and muted beige - salmon colored silk thread on tightly woven linen cloth. The sampler dates from circa 1750. It measures approximately 12 1/4 x 13 inches or 31 x 33 cm.The sampler is in good condition, considering its age. The colors have hardly faded over the years. The linen cloth is a little bit discolored.
Any darker areas are just the shadows of slight folds in the cloth while taking pictures. If you have any questions or would like more or larger pictures, please don't hesitate to contact me.
