Mid-nineteenth century European example, likely from Scotland, where most European paisleys were produced in the Scottish town of Paisley. Every prominent, fashion-conscious Victorian woman had at least one as part of her trousseau. In very good condition for its age and previous use as an outer shawl used by the Victorian woman to protect her elaborate clothing on important outings where a coat would be too cumbersome or nearly impossible over the larger bustled skirts of the day.
There are some damages such as there are a lot of holes. 3" X 3" and 1" X 1" size of pieces missing on the border, a lot of holes in center field, the biggest holes are 2" X 2" and the smallest is like penny sizes --See picture! There are some tiny holes. They all can be fixed by professional. This shawl never being washed dry-cleaned or pressed.
