Early/mid 19th century linen and wool work sampler by Harriet Wright aged 9 - 1843. This sampler is just delightful with neat stitch work throughout, the moreso when one considers Harriet was just nine years old when she completed it. The upper section of the linen is stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns, all underlined with a meandering floral border. The middle section of the linen is stitched with a charming two storey red house with picket fencing, a tree and tall floral motif to its right and left. The lower section of the linen is stitched with a small central flower with a bird on either side and a central fruit basket beneath flanked by a tulip basket and flower basket. Harriet's details and the date of 1843 are stitched across the bottom edge with a crown to the left side, then the whole thing is surrounded by a neat geometric border. The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age with the odd small faint mark. The sampler is behind glass so I'm not able to see the reverse, but the colours of the wool appear good though they are likely to have mellowed to some extent over the years. There are also some small areas of stitch loss. The sampler is contained within a heavy late 19th century dark oak frame which is in good condition with the some small scratches and scuff marks commensurate with its age. PLEASE NOTE - ANY MARKS ETC ON THE PHOTOS WHICH I'VE NOT ALREADY MENTIONED, ARE FROM THE GLARE AND REFLECTION OF THE GLASS AND NOT ON THE SAMPLER ITSELF.
