This wonderful quilt has a secret story! It seems that only half of a usual size quilt is here. I have no idea what happened to the other half.
Possibly it was passed down to two heirs who couldn't decide which one would get the quilt, so they simply cut it in half! It is pieced in the churn dash or hole in a barn door pattern in Turkey red and muslin. Each square has a signature and date that seem to be 1882!
That would make this quilt definitely and antique. It was probably originally a group quilt or presentation quilt made for someone by her/his friends and/or club or church group.
It is probably hand-pieced and hand-quilted, has a cotton batting and a muslin backing. Check out my other items! Be sure to add me to your favorites list!
