Gorgeous Antique large 9 Patch Quilt. Madder browns, indigo, burgundy, & reds are just some of the predominate colors that make up this beautiful piece of art. There are a wonderful variety of printed fabrics too that go together so well. 7 stitches per inch and quilting "lines" under 1/2 inch apart.
Measures about 85" by 98". Thin batting, folds easily for display. This lovely quilt came from the estate of an antique quilt collector and member of the American Quilters Society and the American Quilt Study Group. Based on the fabric patterns and the madder browns in this quilt I believe it is from around or shortly after the Civil War Era. As you can see in the photos there are quite a few "puff out" surface tears and some of the fabric pieces are deteriorated completely.
There are spots of age discoloration and faded areas as well. There is also one small hole that I hadn't found earlier(it is visible on the second photo lower left by border). Overall though, it is not too bad for its age.Because this quilt is so large, there are plenty of ways to fold it for the best display. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. This and three other antique quilts(last photo) all came from the same estate.
