Antique printed tapestry War of Troy Trojan theme printed French textile mural

  
Welcome to The Textile Trunk. Dating from the mid to late 1800's, a wonderful antique textile! This textile is a hand block printed rendition of the War Of Troy tapestry series. This printed tapestry depicts scenes from the ancient Greek story of the Trojan war (please see my other textiles for the other 2 in the collection). The lovely script writing at the bottom , in Latin, reads. A warlike one, the helmet of a thousand and federate so that Bectorem they take revenge. These favors an orderly Radiance. This wonderful textile would look amazing used as a wall hanging. The ground fabric is a very heavy weight , hand woven linen and cotton fabric.

This panel weighs nearly 5 pounds. Very heavy weight, thick and heavy. The printing is all hand blocked, the colors have faded wonderfully. The patina of this textile is FABULOUS. It's developed that wonderful warm aged tone that only time can offer!

You can see the edges have been nailed to a wall in the past. This textile would MAKE a room a conversation piece for many many years to come. This textile measures 52 inches wide by 123 inches long. This textile is in as found, unwashed condition with light storage dust There are small nail holes around the edges and some darker discolorations especially on the right edge (please see photographs) STUNNING.
