Antique Jacquard Indigo Blue & White Coverlet With Eagles + Tree of Life, Dated 1837, Center Seam. Presenting an antique Jacquard loomed coverlet woven in deep indigo blue and ivory white, 19th century New York /Pa coverlet dated 1837 and made of natural undyed cotton and indigo blue wool.

A double weave woven jacquard coverlet with vivid medallions, stars, flower wreaths, roosters, eagles and tree of life. Dated in corner block 1837 with the name Eliza Beth Bement. This coverlet is fringed only on the bottom side and has a hand-turned rolled edge at top end. The pattern one side is reversed on the other, the lighter-colored side was meant for summer display and the darker one use in winter. Probably never having been washed, it was used often due to the wear on top of the coverlet but the fiber is still strong and sturdy with great body and soft wool fibers.

This signed coverlet is in fair to good original condition with no fading and some wear, as seen in photos, no seam separation in center seam, areas of wear at sides, no insect damage, no color bleeding, old storage odor, brown little spots of storage oxidation scattered about, and fringe is not all intact. Most damage is on the top of coverlet. On the darker winter side is some repair and worn areas with holes that do not go through to the other side. Like most home woven coverlets from this time period, were done in two halfs and joined together with a center seam. Overall threads are in sturdy and strong condition, not weak at all.

This lovely wool coverlet can be displayed in your period home and enjoyed for years to come! We are happy to answer any questions about this item. Our antique textiles are collectible and are not new and not reproductions, and have lived a long and eventful life and sometimes developing flaws. Therefore, use and wear should be expected with these items, unless stated in description.

We do not launder or dryclean unless stated in listing, and most times have been in storage for many decades picking up old age storage oxidation spots. As condition and description is largely based on personal opinion, we ask that you look at the photos carefully and decide.
