This is a stunning antique hand sewn quilt in a pieced Pine Tree pattern. The quilt came with a handwritten note which is pictured indicating the quilt was sewn around 1860.
It also has a tag indicating it was featured in a quilt show. The quilt is in good condition for its age and is completely hand pieced and hand quilted. The quilt contains 130 pine trees in an indigo calico fabric sewn on a white cotton with the same white cotton backing. The quilting is nicely done with straight stitches at 6 to 7 stitches per inch. The binding is the same indigo calico fabric of the trees and there is no fraying but two areas with damage to the edge (pictured). There is some shifting of the cotton batting. I have included a photo of the back of the quilt with the lighting on the other side so you can see through the quilt. There are 2 holes in the backing measuring 2-1/2" and 1" along with 4 tiny holes and 3 areas of repair. The holes go through to the front on only 2 of the tiny holes. There are 7 very light spots on the front.
The quilt measures 87" X 92" and has been hand cleaned and is nice and fresh. Some quilts that I sell, I have cleaned using a non-chlorine detergent or cleaned in such a way to not affect the overall integrity of the piece. I will disclose whether I have cleaned the item or not. All of my listings for items that are fabric have been checked for stains, tears, wear, etc.
Keeping in mind that most of these pieces are old. I have tried to describe any issues to the best of my ability. What may seem insignificant to me may be of utmost importance to you so please ask questions! I try to respond in a timely manner. The item "Antique Hand Sewn Indigo and White Pine Tree Quilt with Provenance 1860" is in sale since Thursday, March 08, 2018.
