Utterly sublime length of antique 19thc French jacquard in the most amazing griffin type pattern and stripes. So rare and hard to come by these days. This is a weighty denser linen and cotton textile.
At times there was also a bit of silk in the fibers which this one feels like it may have but not 100% certain. Substantial and weighty floppy type cloth.
Amazing palette of rich deep blue (considerably deeper/darker than my camera captured), a sienna type burnt apricot/clayish red and a pale sagey gray green, similar to a silver sage (probably once deeper and time has mellowed it a bit). Colors were hard to capture but again, are rich old world hues, best seen in photo #2. They have mellowed through the years but still amazing. The blue is quite a bit deeper (not a cobalt, a teal/navy of sorts or very dark Prussian type blue used during this time). This is larger in scale and gives any project a tremendous old unique French nuance.
The griffins are aprox 9 long. Pieces of this nature are so rare to source so thrilled to have acquired a bit.
Excellent for home pieces; pillows, windows, decorative period upholstery and an abundance of creative period projects; millenery, bags etc.. I think it would be magnificent as a wall piece or back drop element. Condition is very good and strong for it's age. A bit of a more overall aged nuance/patina and a few age specks which in no way effect the beauty of this lovely old cloth, simply adds to it's old world essence. Measures 26" wide by 38" long I can keep up to a quantity of "2" in one length (so up to 26" wide by 76" long can be sent uncut) Many thanks!!
Hello & welcome to Pia's I sell antique and vintage fabric. Each textile is different; some possibly used, some unused. I will give you my best assessment. I do not always launder them nor do I know all their history, how they have been stored over time etc.. I have a 30+ year long & extensive knowledge of textiles and gauge age ranges; fiber content etc..
To the best of my ability. As always please view all photos, dimensions etc.. As they are part of the description. Please keep in mind that I provide the best photos possible but monitors do vary. If my eyes should miss a small flaw, please know it is not intentional.
