Antique Collector Beaded Crazy Quilt 1880's Original Design Good Condition    Antique Collector Beaded Crazy Quilt 1880's Original Design Good Condition
This is an original design, based on the traditional crazy quilts of the late 19th century. Width 65" Length 71" Multi-colored with red borders. Construction Techniques - Hand pieced, hand embroidery, hand embellished with beads, hand painted, chenille work, stuffing, hand finished. Batt/Fill - 100% low-loft wool. Backing - The backing is polished cotton. It has a seam along one side.

The construction is excellent with secure seams throughout. The variety of techniques add interest. The exquisite beading is not often found on crazy quilts.

This is one of the best crazy quilts I have ever seen! It was possibly made in Warrensburg Missouri.

Specialty fabrics including velvets, silks, printed ribbons, yarns, perle cotton, beads, paint. The crazy quilt contains nine 16" X 16" blocks.

The quilt is framed with a 9 inch red velvet border on each side. Embroidered dates on blocks & ribbons. All of the block seams have embroidery stitches and many are combination stitches. One block has embroidered Kate Greenway looking children. There are a variety of techniques used on the blocks including chenille work, stuffed flowers, folded ribbon flowers, painting and fancy beading on seams. The quilt includes initials, dates and silk ribbons including one from the Women's Pavilion at the International Exposition of 1876, one from the Worlds Industrial & Cotton Centennial in New Orleans in 1885 and one from the 1885 National Women's Christian Temperance Union in New Orleans. The edge was finished by turning the red borders to the back and attaching the backing to these edges.

It was finished by hand. The condition of this quilt is very GOOD. Some of the painted designs are starting to crack.

There are some minor light stains on the back and some breakdown of the velvet on the corners. There are a few missing beads, one of the blocks the fabric is starting to deteriorate, there is small stain on one of the blocks "refer to frame 2 in photos". This is the most UNIQUE crazy quilt you will ever see! For being over 130 years old, this quilt is in good condition. I was only allowed 12 photos for this listing. This quilt is in a class by itself! If you have any questions, please ask! I'll do my best to answer them! All offers will be considered! International Buyers - Please Note.
